In 1991 Tom and Mark formed the firm of Keefe & Wesner Architects a professional corporation with offices in North Bennington and Middlebury, Vermont. They offer comprehensive services in architectural design, planning, historic preservation, sustainable energy design, and interior design. The firm holds professional licenses in Vermont, New York, and Massachusetts and is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, allowing reciprocal licensing as needed in all other states and Canada.
Keefe & Wesner’s approach to the design of new buildings is founded upon extensive knowledge of, and respect for, traditional American building forms and materials while applying recent technologies and materials that form the basis of sustainable design. Mark and Tom have a long and prolific history in the conservation, rehabilitation and adaptive re-use of older buildings; from initial feasibility assessments and diagnostic building reports to project design and administration. They work to guide owners to the productive and successful completion of building projects.

Tom was born and raised in Connecticut, assembled a non-standard education at several colleges and universities including New York University, Yale, and the University of Vermont while engaged in social and political activism (civil rights; anti-war) in the 60s, and playing in a variety of rock ‘n’ roll and bluegrass bands. He trained as a carpenter and contractor, ran commercial construction projects in Boston and Vermont, and apprenticed with historic preservation and design professionals. He earned a Masters of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute while spearheading preservation work in Vermont at both the community and statewide levels. He has lived in Vermont since 1971, has chaired the Vermont Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, while continuing his involvement in social and political activism. He continues to be a statewide advocate and participant in preservation planning, and does underwater archaeology in his spare time. Tom lives in Cornwall, Vermont with his wife and their border collie.

Masters of Architecture - Tulane School of Architecture
Mark Wesner was born in Chelsea Massachusetts and raised in southeastern Pennsylvania. He attended Middlebury College and graduated with a degree in Archeology/Anthropology, attended the Northwestern University Archeological Program, and later traveled to Germany where he worked for three years as a field archaeologist for the Baden Wuerttemberg State Department for the Preservation of Monuments There he directed the excavation of Roman and Celtic sites and drafted reports published in quarterly magazines. He returned to the U.S. in 1981 and graduated from the Tulane School of Architecture in 1985, in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he worked in architecture firms there, and later in Albany, New York. He & his wife live on a farm where they raise animals near the Batten kill River where he canoes and fishes for relaxation.
Geoffrey M. Metcalfe

Geoff Metcalfe was born and raised in Bennington, Vermont. He attended VTC in 1992 after graduating from Mount Anthony Union High School, where he attended classes at the CDC for drafting and design. He worked for two years in the drafting department at Eveready Battery Company working closely with engineers and designers. Geoff also worked part time in the construction field during his early years at Keefe & Wesner developing an invaluable knowledge for use in construction documents. He has been with K&W since 1995 developing his design skills and CAD proficiency. In his spare time he has been heavily involved as a volunteer for local sports organizations including 8 years as president of the local Little League chapter and nearly a decade of service by way of coaching and board positions in youth football as well as Babe Ruth baseball. He and his wife reside in Bennington where they are raising twins and a black lab who often greeting clients at the office.
