Our Story
In 1991 Tom and Mark formed the firm of Keefe & Wesner Architects a professional corporation residing in North Bennington Vermont. After 4 short years working on their own, the firm hired Geoff Metcalfe to round out a team, developing hundreds of projects together.
In 2017, after 26 years, Tom Keefe retired to spend more time sailing, playing music with friends, and relaxing at home with family.
In 2019 Mark Wesner followed his long-time partner’s lead and retired, also to enjoy more time hunting, gardening and with family. Upon their departure, the baton was passed to Geoff, taking the reins in January of 2020 after 24 years working side by side with the two founding partners.
Keefe & Wesner offers comprehensive services in architectural design, planning, historic preservation, sustainable energy design, and interior design. The firm holds professional licenses in Vermont and New York and is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. KWA’s approach to the design of new buildings is founded upon extensive knowledge of, and respect for, traditional American building forms and materials while applying recent technologies and materials that form the basis of sustainable design. The firm has a long and prolific history in the conservation, rehabilitation and adaptive re-use of older buildings, from initial feasibility assessments and diagnostic building reports to project design and administration. They work to guide owners to the productive and successful completion of building projects.

Geoff Metcalfe was born and raised in Bennington, Vermont. He attended and graduated from Mount Anthony Union High School where he found his passion in his drafting and design classes. His classroom work led to an internship in the drafting department at Eveready Battery Company where he worked closely with engineers and designers through his junior and senior years. After graduation, he attended Vermont Technical College where he studied Architecture, receiving his degree in spring of 1995.
That same year, Geoff began work at KWA as an apprentice, focusing initially on drafting and design, eventually running his own projects. During his early years with the firm, Geoff also worked part time in the construction field absorbing invaluable hands on experience with the trades, improving his construction drawings, and his working relationship with contractors. In 2019 he took and passed his NCARB exams and became a licensed Architect.
Geoff has many outside interests, most notably his dedication to local sports programs. He was involved for many years in the local football, basketball and Babe Ruth programs. Though, his true passion lies with Little League Baseball, where he has been the president of the board since 2009, during which time he and a dedicated board have overseen major improvements in facilities and operations. He has also undertaken a number of pro bono projects for local organizations. In 2018, he was honored by both the local VFW and Norshaft Lions’ clubs with “Citizen of the Year” awards for his dedication to community improvement.
Outside of his work and volunteer efforts, Geoff enjoys spending time on his many hobbies and with his wonderful wife Michelle and his children Austin and Alyvia.
